The Wooden Hull Yacht Club is dedicated to bringing together people who are interested in cruising and racing wooden yachts. Our goal is to stimulate interest and continuing love and respect for the skill, design and workmanship which only a wooden hull boat can reflect.
As classic sloops, schooners, ketches and yawls disappear we aim to encourage the restoration and preservation of sailing maritime heritage. Our members take pride in the ownership and appearance of their sail and power boats and wish to share with and educate others in the beauty of classic wooden vessels.
Here's a quick rundown of our race and event calendar. Please check the events page (button to the left) for further details.

The Ahmanson Cup
The WHYC has received a gracious invitation from the Newport Harbor Yacht Club to form a wooden boat class in the upcoming Ahmanson Cup, Sept. 20th. For a class, we will need a minimum of 6 boats. The Ahmanson Cup, having been moved to a September date, has the potential to become a grand and significant event in Newport Harbor.
This could play out well for us in the wooden boating community given that the WHYC will be staging a yearly event in conjunction with the Balboa Yacht Club the following weekend - The Newport Heritage Regatta. Boaters will be encouraged to attend both events with those coming from afield being offered the opportunity to moor over the week in between the events.
Contact the organizers of the Ahmanson Cup for more information on mooring and guest slip availability during the week of Sept. 21st to 26th. Boats could then conceivably move over to Balboa Yacht Club on Friday the 26th in advance of the Heritage Regatta.

The Newport Heritage Regatta
As mentioned above, the Newport Heritage Regatta will be held on Sept. 27th in conjunction with the Balboa Yacht Club. With the Wooden Boat Festival at the beginning of the summer, the Ahmanson Cup and the Newport Heritage Regatta at the end, we are positioned well for the coming years in our efforts to promote the L.A. and Orange County classic boating community.
Following the race will be a dinner and awards ceremony in the Commodore's Room at Balboa Yacht Club. Dinner tickets are $20.00 each.

Please consider attending both events. It will be a terrific way to close out the summer sailing season.
