2010 WHYC Schedule of Events

The calendar below outlines events in 2010 which may be of interest to wooden boat enthusiasts. Those in bold are organised by the club. If you would like to get involved in club events please contact the event chairs. To add a club event please contact any board member.

February 27th

WHYC 35th One More Time Regatta, DRYC, Marina Del Rey

(Chairs - Andy Kopetski, Chris Frost)

The first club event of the year and one of our most popular the 35th One More Time Regatta, hosted by the Del Rey Yacht Club this year.

The 35th One More Time Regatta is all set to be another great wooden boat event. The prestigious Del Rey Yacht Club is hosting the race again this year and will provide free docking at the club for race participants (Burton Chase Park is also available for visiting yachts). Kathleen Phillips-Hellman, one of the original founders of the race will be presenting the trophies.

What better way to get over the recent wet weather than to race in the club's first 2010 event, the 35th One More Time Regatta?

For any additional information please contact Andy Kopetski or Chris Frost. Applications may be mailed to either the DRYC or WHYC club addresses.

July 17th WHYC Eric Erickson, Alamitos Bay / Oil Islands

(Chair - Chris Frost)

This on the water event starts with a race around the islands off Long Beach and finishes with a get together behind Island White onboard one of our larger club boats (previously Dirigo II). In the old days this event was one of the largest on the West coast attracting over a hundred wooden sailboats. Although now more modest this event has been really enjoyed by those who attend. Smaller boats are welcome to raft up with the host boat and a whaler will be on hand to ferry over to the party participants who have anchored or moored behind the island. This is a great event for those that aren't into racing, spend the afternoon in the anchorage watching the racers and join us for the party in the evening.
August 8th WHYC Wild Goose Chase, Long Beach to Newport Beach

(Chairs - Tom Zetlmaier and Bill Dunlap)

Another of our historic races returns with an easy run down hill from Long Beach to Newport Beach and an evening social gathering in Newport Beach. We hope to banish the boat-eating fog which beset the fleet last year !!!
July 31st 32nd McNish Classic Yacht Race

PCYC

Channel Islands
September 25th WHYC Clark Sweet Cruise and Homeward Bound Race, Catalina Island

(Chair - Rick Whearty)

Join us at the island during Southern California's Indian Summer. We'll be having a BBQ on the beach, you bring the meat and the club will provide the rest. Food and fun on the island followed by an easy reaching race to LA Light on Sunday afternoon. If you need an excuse for a low stress trip out on the boat what better than the Clark Sweet Cruise?
